Hi my fellow singaporean bros!

I am a singaporean currently based in overseas. My fiance is a thai and we will be having our ROM in singapore next month.

However, i am quite worried by this regulation as stated in the ROM web,

"With effect from 1 June 2011, where both parties intending to get married are Singapore Citizens (SCs) and/or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPRs), it is no longer required for at least one party to be physically present within Singapore for at least 15 days before the date of notice of marriage. The change is to facilitate these couples, who already have a connection to Singapore, to register their marriages here. In particular, SCs/SPRs residing or working overseas would no longer need to take long periods of leave to meet this statutory condition.

For couples where at least one party is not a SC or SPR, the 15-day requirement will continue to apply and at least one of them has to be physically present within Singapore for a minimum of 15 days before the date of notice of marriage. "
 

Prior to me filing for the notice, i have rang up ROM twice to ask them about the regulation, they assure me that I will not have a problem because I already satisfy the requirement as I am a Singaporean even after I told them i will only be back in Singapore 3 days before the ROM. My fiance will also be coming back on the same day as me. However, to my understanding of the above after reading it for so many times. It still worry me as neither of us fulfill this 15 days criteria. You know the thing is they always tell you no problem but when it comes to the actual day. It will be a big problem.

I will be leaving immediately on that night after the ROM back to thailand for her customary. Right after the customary in thai, we will be going back to the country that I reside now and I will need the marriage certificate to apply for her a dependant pass here. Many things has been prepared and planned. Timeline is also very tight as my work schedule is keeping me very busy. Therefore, this will caused alot of disruptions and to our plans and the problem is i hardly get the chance to come back to Singapore. Most important we will waste so much money and i dont know when is the next time i will be back.

Appreciate if any bros here can answer my burning questions.

why not contact them via email to confirm as well bro? At least you have something official. As you know, going through phone is dangerous as they person may be blur, ignorant etc.

if it is stated in the regulation, then i guess u have to follow, no matter whether u have it in black and white or not, because the black and white part is only to see whose head to chop, but if contravene the regulations, could have unnecessary hassle of not being able to register... if you are busy, then ask your fiancee to come singapore 15 days before the ROM cos the rules state clearly that 1 party has to be here... unless u try to get an exemption from the Registrar of Marriages from compliance with this regulation.

I am getting married soon

We are preparing the documents and as expected, we are totally confused.

First Issue:
If we register in Singapore :
ROM Singapore told us just passport and IC will do.

If we register in Thailand,
Thai embassy ask me to check with Singapore embassy bangkok since i am Singaporean
Singapore embassy gave me a list of documents, MOM Letter (to confirm she never work in Singapore), CID Letter (to confirm I am not criminal??) etc.. to produce and to go Singapore embassy for affidavit (both my wife and myself) , then we can proceed to register in Thailand. Sounds very weird since its Thai jurisdiction. (but whatever) .Even ask me to get my own criminal record from CID Singapore (I understand it i need to get one from Thai police since i am registering there but Singapore???) and go bangkok and show them

So out of the 2, obviously we decided to ROM in Singapore. But based on the 2 totally scenarios, I was thinking if ROM would last minute ask me to produce this or that as well, any experience??

Second issue:

My wife will be staying with me and I intend to apply long term visit pass for her, what are the documents I have to ask my wife to bring for long term visit pass? I checked ICA website and it says all documents in application, I am just worried we leave the original in Thailand and then we would have problem, so double check

My guess :

passport, IC, education certificates, ROM Cert.

Do they want household papers? birth cert or any other documents? (Really dun want to end up running back to thailand just to get another paper) From experiences, do we need these documents?  Anyway, my wife says birth cert is given back when they get IC...not sure if she blur or true though.

From experiences, any documents or letters that our Thai wife need to produce for long term? if we apply for PR subsequently, any new documents we need to have??

And where do we get them translated into English? Thai embassy Singapore??

Hi,

ROM is the easy part. Problems only start from LTVP. It is better to ROM in Singapore.
Before i get ahead of myself, here are the admin things you need to do. Will not talk about family stuff.

- Get the identification documents as stated by ROM. No, they are not going to spring last minute requests on you.
 Despite what some may think, they are actually quite fair and efficient.

- If your wife to be cannot speak English. Get a list of interpreters hps FROM ROM. Call them, pay them. Rate about $200+.

- Get 2 people to be your witnesses. Anybody also can, preferably Singaporean.

- Buy rings and wedding clothes. Advise you to find a way to save without incurring her wrath of you being cheapskate.

LTVP
All documents to be translated in Bangkok as it is cheaper even if you choose a very professional company, then brought to thai embassy for stamp of approval. Embassy will charge you $30 per copy stamped. Do not translate in Singapore unless you want to pay >$600 for a few pieces of paper. Stamp at embassy is no choice, only way to prove to ICA that all documents are official. Remember to give the security guard at Thai embassy a nasty look as he will most likely be rude.

Official documents are listed on ICA website. You need to apply online, so keep your hard copies in a file in case you cannot complete the application in one go, and also to give a good impression to ICA. You need her parents ID particulars for one of the pages. 

Despite what some may think, they are actually quite fair and efficient too, just dun kenna Ah Neh officer. Super unhelpful. Contrast with other races is huge.

My question for you is, are you sure you really want to get married, or no choice you created a life?

 Hmm....not so sure, but from what I know, need to get parent consent if below 21...so probably need some kind of consent paper bah...then translate into english...then thai embassy endorse...then produce to ROM...this is what I think, think check with ROM, they are fast in replying
