I remember in the past, the TGs never called us 'brother brother'. It was simply our names. Now this 'brother sister' term has stuck, so much so that no matter which TD you go to, every TG or TB will call you in the same way.
I asked one TG before why like this? She told me dunno, other TGs used this term, so she just follow.
Anyone remember exactly when this thing started?

In TD, there was a girl who sat alone @ the table next to me who came over and say hi. Turns out to be a Thai Chinese who is a patron of the TD and kept me company the whole night as we are both alone. Ask for my name but still call me brother all the way.
I go bkk and my ex who drove me also call the parking attendent brother ..... seems like the norm.

the Thai style Pee and Nong. quite common in Thailand. part of culture and respect. nicknames are also quite the norm with many believing that real names if told to others... may kena GT. so they give nicknames. that's why you have all the Pee Ping and the Nong Pong everywhere... ok most prefer seafood style names like Goong and Pla and Poo. there are also many different and even modern type nicknames these days.. like Benz (i think it's named after Mercedes), Bell, and whatever that they seem to enjoy doing at that point of naming. i won't be surprised if they gave you a nickname too. cos it's challenge to remember our cheena names sometimes. or even the english David and Rick can be hard to remember. Peter, Tom, Harry maybe too many so how to remember all of them.
Pee is quite good to call. shows some kind of respect.
but in Sg. i fully agree the "Brother" alternative really kills all s_xual interests. especially with the thought of inbreeding and incest. very sian. how to hug a younger "Sister"? or maybe some of us have this fetish to fondle our "Sisters" at a disco in the dark with hard dance music and live entertainment pumping the sound system?
it's hard.
so please screw the "Brother" and stick to Pee. and if Pee cannot make it, then just round-off the feelings and call all "Teerak". much easier. since we also know that it's not really "rak" it's not really love. but at least it sounds less family than "Brother".
