Okay, let me get the ball rolling by starting the first Doll House chat thread. I attended the soft launch opening last night, and this is my FR.
First, let's start with the most obvious thing I noticed: NO LIVE BAND. the stage (if you can call it a stage) is actually just a small platform at the end of the room, and it can fit three singers at most. there is a keyboardist, but he mainly just provides the backup tunes to the song. so it largely felt like the singers were just singing karaoke at times, and without a drummer or a guitarist, the entertainment factor is just not there.
Second, i'm sure most of you will be interested in the drinks price list. Here goes: - Martell $228 - Chivas $200 - One jug of Carlsberg - $48
on the steep side, yeah. my friends and I already agreed that coming here on a regular basis (like what we did at the old Live Impact/Icon will not be sustainable. it is definitely too pricey, even if we factor in the discount for regular patrons. the bottles are pretty much what you would expect for a joint at Chijmes, but it's the beer that is too expensive. sometimes you just want to have a jug or two, but paying so much is not worth it. more 'wu hua' to open bottle instead, if you ask me.
Third - NO sofas. there are no areas for VIP members. even one customer who opened a Martell cannon last night was only entitled to a regular table. and by the way, the tables and chairs are the SAME tables and chairs from the old Icon at Yess Leisure! i can't believe that i am sitting on the same furniture lor. should have invested in some new tables and more comfortable chairs for the customers and the singers and coyotes to enjoy. i always believe that a comfortable customer will always end up staying longer, and subsequently, spend more too.
Fourth - air-con very warm. because of the smoking by customers inside and the relatively low ceiling, it got very warm inside towards midnight and even the PRs were wiping away at their sweat at one of the tables. it was that stuffy. this ventilation definitely needs to be addressed.
Fifth - all in all, it was an eye-opening experience. of course, the main drawing factor is that the singers are still among the most chio in all Singapore TDs, and the current batch of coyotes and PRs are quite hot too. lots of eye candy. but will this be enough to entice regulars to frequent this place as often as the old Icon? it remains to be seen.
I'm speaking as a regular patron of Icon, having frequented this joint for over two years already. i hope they can do well, and if the above issues can be looked into, then there is lots of potential in the months to come.
My verdict? Worth a look, sit down and see if you enjoy yourself. I saw many people having a good time and spamming the PRs with tequilas last night. As bro Octopuss would say, one man's pizza is another man's prata. =)

bro deuter, i think they largely used the same decor as sanook sanook......... there is UV lighting above and there is one small television screen in the corner showing soccer now. our bro Patcharapa also said the sound system is of poor quality........... oh well, these are hopefully just the opening day kinks that have to be ironed out. i have faith in the management to turn things around.

Thanks for the FR Bro United~ GTK you~ me have not been to Doll House yet~ assume that this week they will get full house treatment almost everynight, thanks to its size & Icon regulars after reading the FR, was a bit surprise on the price on juggies & no Live Band.. reminds me of Club Zinc.. but I guess the management did their calculation.. If I am not wrong the air-con would have been fixed by now. Hope that they could take up upstairs (or other location) as well in recent times, as I think their main objective was to open "PRC market"... I agree with Bro xenodemon, Doll House will be picking up as time goes by... this is the joint that ran by the management since Central Mall's Live Impact, and many of our favorite Icon singers would be still hanging around~ I guess it will be a new experience to have singers having karaoke session~

i think they will have problems wif opening upstairs... i think their still tryin very hard to get their licensing approved... as most of the spaces upstairs are actually licensed for restaurants.. they wana get a pub/disco license seems abit difficult...
anywayz... tonite is friday nite.. no more icon... not goin out tonite? hehehehe..
